[B.A.T.M.A.N.] [PATCH 1/2] alfred: Add a lightweight framework for running facter scripts that feed data into alfred every 5 minutes

Alfred expects to be fed data periodically, but there's currently no easy way to do that from scripts, prompting people to write whole C programs to accomplish tasks that could easily be scripted. Provide a really simple framework to run scripts every 5 minutes, using a cronjob, when alfred is started by the init.d script. Hi, I think I had posted some thoughts on the TVLV feature on the IRC channel before with some suggestions for changes (e.g. moving the TVLV feature from the individual packet types down to the common batman header). And had tried to come up with examples for features where TVLVs for batman broadcast packets could be useful - which might have been potential, but not the most convincing, not the most awesome features. So now I have a feature which I would like to have / would like to work on in the future [0], and I would like to know: a) Whether it is possible to do that with the current TVLV infrastructure without breaking compatibility. I think it is, probably by announcing this capability via an OGM TVLV and only activating this feature if all visible nodes support it, right? b) If it is possible without breaking compatibility, then this could still cause quite some burdon for heterogeneous, multi party controlled networks, because all nodes would need to upgraded or older ones somehow blacklisted, right? c) What is your estimation, would it be easy to pull the TVLV feature down onto the common batman-header code-wise? d) Would the ease or difficulty to implement it (c)) and the benefits it would provide (a)+b)) justify including a patch for a TVLV-per-batman-header in the first compat bump release? e) The first compat bump patches were already submitted to net/, so there actually wouldn't be much time left to do that, would there? Instead of handling icmp packets only up to length of icmp_packet_rr, the code should handle any icmp length size. Therefore the length truncating is moved to when the packet is actually sent to userspace (this does not support lengths longer than icmp_packet_rr yet). Longer packets are forwarded without truncating. This patch also cleans up some parts where the icmp header struct could be used instead of other icmp_packet(_rr) structs to make the code more readable. It is nice to have a manpage somewhere but the user is most likely more interested in reading it from a familiar place. Installing it together with the binary seems appropriate because then the user only has to call his/her prefered manpage reader to get fast and easy access to information about everything the alfred-gpsd binary provides. Instead of handling icmp packets only up to length of icmp_packet_rr, the code should handle any icmp length size. Therefore the length truncating is moved to when the packet is actually sent to userspace (this does not support lengths longer than icmp_packet_rr yet). Longer packets are forwarded without truncating. This patch also cleans up some parts where the icmp header struct could be used instead of other icmp_packet(_rr) structs to make the code more readable. Hi, I am a newbie in batman-adv. I got a question regarding Hops and Throughput, especially in regards with a collocated dual-radio device. Hopefully somebody could offer some help here for me to fully understand batman-adv operation. I have 3 devices, namely A, B and C. A is only having single radio (operating at Freq 5.20G in AdHoc mode). Put this under bat0. Bridge bat0 with eth0. B is having dual-radio (radio1 operates at 5.20G in AdHoc mode, radio2 is at 5.24G in AdHoc mode). Put these under bat0. Bridge bat0 with eth0 C is like A (single radio, operating at 5.24G in AdHoc mode). Put this under bat0. Bridge bat0 with eth0. So, the wireless link will be like this : [A]::::::::::::::: [B(radio1)---B(radio2)]::::::::::::::::[C] 1) If i were to ping from A to C, how many hops is it considered?. This patch introduces a new sysfs option named "no_rebroadcast" on a per hard interface basis. It allows manually enabling a split-horizon like behaviour for the layer 2 multicast payload frames, in that incoming multicast payload frames on such a hard interface are only being rebroadcasted on all interfaces except the incoming one instead of being rebroadcasted on all interfaces. Such an option should only be enabled if you are certain that these rebroadcasts are unnecessary. This is usually the case for instance for point-to-point wifi longshots or wired links. This option can especially safe a significant amount of upload overhead if the neighbourhood on a link is rather large, for instance in some transitive, symmetric VPN configurations. Using this option wrongly will break your mesh network, use this option wisely and at your own risk! Hello David, this is another batch intended for net-next/linux-3.13. This pull request is a bit bigger than usual, but 6 patches are very small (three of them are about email updates).. Patch 1 is fixing a previous merge conflict resolution that went wrong (I realised that only now while checking other patches..). Patches from 2 to 4 that are updating our emails in all the proper files (Documentation/, headers and MAINTAINERS). Patches 5, 6 and 7 are bringing a big improvement to the TranslationTable component: it is now able to group non-mesh clients based on the VLAN they belong to. In this way a lot a new enhancements are now possible thanks to the fact that each batman-adv behaviour can be applied on a per VLAN basis. And, of course, in patches from 8 to 12 you have some of the enhancements I was talking about: - make the batman-Gateway selection VLAN dependent - make DAT (Distributed ARP Table) group ARP entries on a VLAN basis (this allows DAT to work even when the admin decided to use the same IP subnet on different VLANs) - make the AP-Isolation behaviour switchable on each VLAN independently - export VLAN specific attributes via sysfs. Switches like the AP-Isolation are now exported once per VLAN (backward compatibility of the sysfs interface has been preserved) Patches 13 and 14 are small code cleanups. Patch 15 is a minor improvement in the TT locking mechanism. Patches 16 and 17 are other enhancements to the TT component. Those allow a node to parse a "non-mesh client announcement message" and accept only those TT entries belonging to certain VLANs. Patch 18 exploits this parse&accept mechanism to make the Bridge Loop Avoidance component reject only TT entries connected to the VLAN where it is operating. Previous to this change, BLA was rejecting all the entries coming from any other Backbone node, regardless of the VLAN (for more details about how the Bridge Loop Avoidance works please check [1]).
