Did you actually test the stuff you are proposing ?? batctl if del <iface> results in a kernel crash ...

Well, since I do run batman-adv against net-next, I could not test the compat stuff and I left this exercise to you :-) The problem seems to be there....I'll try to dig and see if I can how to fix it.
