is there a document somewhere with a brief explanation between the differences and benefits of layer 2 / layer 3 and kernel or userland ?? im sure a layer 2 kernel mod is the most efficient, yet, is there a test or comparision and explantion of why or what benefits ? im just doing a comparitive between my current mesh running bmxd in userland and say batman-adv kernel mod, and id prefer to document the data and reasons in the internal wiki for our information, helps not only myself but others understand why :)

Hello, I'm using batman-ex with revision 1146. One thread is running with high cpu load. I can not make any connection via batmand -c. When I try it, the call is also hanging. I had the problems before, but not very often. I can not say how to reproduce this. the compile/linker flags I use are: CFLAGS = -Wall -O1 -DMEMORY_USAGE -DPROFILE_DATA -DDEBUG_MALLOC LDFLAGS = -lpthread Here the top output. Most time the load is about 90%. [B.A.T.M.A.N.] VIS usage

Hi I'm doing some testing with VIS. I have installed the VIS server on a node and the other nodes appear registered on the server, so I gather that this working well. Is it possible to install the server of VIS on a computer outside of the mesh ? I have read the documentation of VIS and I could not find any example of that scenario. Saludos. Gustavo.

Hi First an introduction - I am a David Johnson - I've been working on mesh protocols for a few years now and I've built a 49 node wireless grid to benchmark mesh protocols in South Africa: http://wirelessafrica.meraka.org.za/wiki/index.php/49-node_Indoor_Mesh Elektra and I did some experiments with batman (do I have to use the dots @#!!!) and olsr at the beginning of the year and we wrote a paper showing how batman outperforms olsr on CPU usage and better throughput due to less flapping. The results were very impressive! I'm now in the USA starting a PhD in mesh and I've decided to work on batman in one of my networking projects. We have this idea to try and improve gateway location performance by measuring real throughput at the gateway and then allowing nodes to optimally pick gateways that will give them the best throughput to the Internet but in a fair manner - ie. one user musn't disadvantage another. I would like to understand how the "fast internet connection" gateway location node works batmand -r 1 [interface]?: It says it considers link quality and advertised gateway class - what formula does it used to combine these two together so that it compare others against each other. The function device_create_drvdata was renamed to device_create in linux v2.6.26-5782-g4e10673. Until v2.6.27-4446-g7fb6b5d there was a compatibility define in include/linux/device.h which is removed in linux 2.6.28-rc1. Hi I'm having a problem with bmxd-r1138, bat0 is not created in client node. The gateway is started with: -o 2000 -g 5000 ath2. hi dose batman-adv support multi-gateway. If there is a router which connets two mesh devices(gateway) through same layer 2 wired network, can the mesh network select a better gateway to the router for one packet. 2008-10-24
