Hi, I use 0.3-exp-rv623 and looking at d3 debug on gateway it seems work: gateway assign an ip to a client which wants an outdoor connection: Gateway - assigned 1.0.254.169 to client 5.1.8.5 client 5.1.8.5 well see its gateway: I've tried issuing: batmand -c -d 2 -b ...all is ok but client don't browse internet, it never reach any outdoor IP! The 2 nodes run batman as: (at gateway) batmand --bmx-default -g 5000 ath0 (at client) batmand --bmx-default -r 3 ath0 and see eachother so I believe is not a firewall problem... >From a second ssh session at client, I see no default route is assigned (issuing ip route show) while node is trying to ping outside the mesh: I really do not understand why... issuing a logread at repeater I see: Trying to name tunnel to bat0 ... success! but no default route is set Where I'm wrong? Where I can see on debug in order to fix problem? I've to change something in batman arguments string ? Antonio

Hi, I'm running batman (experimental) on a debian linux as root but want to access the debug levels (batmand -c -b -d 1) from within a apache that is not running as root. batman actually checks the user id and does not allow to run as non-root users. also when I disable the check, batman can not access the /var/run/batman.socket except when I change the access modes from command line. but after each start of batman, the access rights are restricted to root. Is it possible to also support non root access for batmand -c -b -d 1? Regards Stephan

I am switching a 20 mesh node from olsrd but I have some problem in routing. I have no gateway node because I use openvpn to have a tunnel with PC. All nodes have: batman -g 0 -r 3 -o 3000 <interface> node C has: batman -g 0 -r 3 -o 3000 -a 10.0.0.0/24 <interface> I have several case like this: A----good----B----good-----C-----10.0.0.0/24----PC \---------------poor-------------/ three node can communicate with all others but radio link from A to C is poor. When node A want to communicate to node C it goes directly to C because batman calculate a direct route to it. But if I manually set routes to use node B connection from A to C is good. What is my mistake? -r parameter in batmand daemon works only in searching gateway node? ...or it works every time, also with normal node?

Thanks! One thing that just came to my mind: when you used -o 3000 it takes very long to fill the sliding window size of OGM statistics. A sliding window size of 128 will take 384 seconds to fill up - more than 6 minutes! So if you just fire up the daemon and quickly start your measurements, the routing results can be quite arbitrary since there are not enough packets to make a reasonable decision. But it might very well be the case that the broadcasts of the stretched link are propagating too far. In this case there is a workaround: You can increase the broadcast datarate if your wireless drivers/cards support this feature. This way you will decrease the range of OGM broadcasts. This has proven to be a good solution for mesh networks using OLSR at Freifunk. Batman-0.2 still has some flaws in the routing metrics. The routing algorithm works nicely, but the metrics are sometimes unfortunate (choosing routes with bad performance in transmit direction, rumors saying it is preferring routes with small hopcount too much.) We are addressing this with 0.3 and in the experimental branch of batmand. Hi, the wonderful people from graz.funkfeuer.at are simply the fastest in terms of realtime documentation of ongoing experiments. see: https://wiki.graz.funkfeuer.at/BatmanTestbed and particularly the smooth handover experiment when walking through the exhibition side (furnished with 20 mesh-routers) with an OLPC running batman (with a window size (NBRF) of 5 and an originator interval of 2 seconds). The ping -R indicates the route changes, the life audio stream, does not stop until getting outside the building into kind of blind spot. ciao, axel

[B.A.T.M.A.N.] WRT54G Wireless Mode setup questions.

Hello everyone!, I have a couple of question, and excuse me if they has been previously answered, but I can't find any straight answer. If I run "batmand" on a WRT54G, either running OpenWRT, Tomato, DD-WRT or similar firmware, what is the correct mode to set up the router? That is, do I leave it in AP mode, Repeater mode (as in the case of DD-WRT) or what mode? I still don't have clear how the routers talk/find each other. And then, how do you set up DHCP server on them? On one gateway?, meaning that it will supply addresses to all clients, or on each gateway? I assume there has to be a single DHCP server on the mesh (obviously!), but where? Please point me to some references as to how to set up on an existing WRT54G. I have already installed "batmand" on a WRT54G (v6) running DD-WRT (micro) and it runs!, but my setup will be on one master router WRT54GS V1, currently running Tomato VPN build that has tun driver) that will be my Internet gateway, and two WRT's running DD-WRT micro as satellites for the mesh. I'm confused, so I need a little guidance here :) Also, if I can use anything else other than DD-WRT firmware on the WRT54G V6's I have, please let me know. What I have available on hand is (1) WRT54G V1 and (2) WRT54G V6, so that's what I have to work with. Thanks!, -Karl

There will be a general introduction into the protocol mechanisms and its capabilities during the mesh routing-protocols slot at Saturday, September 15th at 5 pm. We have also setup an experimental mesh network at the exhibition area with about 20 nodes running OLSR (0.5.4pre) and BATMAN (batman-0.2 and batman-experimental) in parallel. On Sunday, September 16th (as well as anytime between) will be time for real-live experience during the hands-on workshops at 2 pm. The event will take place at the Kunsthaus Graz in the city center. hi! Dose the translation of batman-adv support fast roaming between batman nodes(every batman node has two wireless interface under a bridge,one works in ap mode,another works in adhoc mode for batman' routing)

I've downloaded and installed the 0.3 current for fonera-kamikaze platform and it seems work fine in a robin mesh cloud... but I've a problem which I don't well undestand. When batmand starts it ask me for a /dev/batman (a modul kernel) which would improve performance. I never read before about /dev/batman, so, anyone can suggest where I can find more documentation? I believe that the originator messages compatibility number was been incremented in o.3 because a node running 0.2 doesn't see OGMs coming from batman o.3 nodes... is this correct? Thanks -- Antonio

Hi Axel, this is great and I will try it, but I can not promise to give you results soon because the lack of time. If I have multiple connections between two nodes, is there a way to setup the quality or priority of those connection? Assume I have tree or more nodes connected in a line (A,B,C,D) and node A and Node D are connected via backbone tunnel over Internet, the wireless connection should be used until the quality falls below a certain level or the number of nodes exceeded a maximum value. setting up a hysteresis should be possible to avoid to much switching of the route. eth1: A ------- B ------- C ------- D bbs: A ============================D Regards Stephan
