The following commit has been merged in the master branch:
commit b4e1705417c6cc7d46d9020259a2c8f457cf82bd
Author: Sven Eckelmann <sven at narfation.org>
Date: Wed Jun 15 09:41:37 2011 +0200

    batman-adv: Reduce usage of char

char was used in different places to store information without really
using the characteristics of that data type or by ignoring the fact that
char has not a well defined signedness.
